Mandag-Lørdag 8:00 – 20:30 &
Søndag 10:00 – 20:30

Charlies Café is a new restaurant that has recently opened in the heart of Århus. As I like Charlies Sandwich very much, I thought I had to try out the restaurant as well. I invited my girlfriend out for Brunch one Sunday morning in October, so that we could try it out together.

Charlies Café is located right next to Charlies Sandwich Bar in Guldsmedegade across from Emmery’s. The restaurant has two floors with a kitchen and a bar on the bottom floor and dinning area on the first floor.

The restaurant and sandwich bar is owned and managed by Amir. He is always very talkative and friendly. I usually buy my sandwich from the sandwich bar where I got to know Reza, who works there. He is a very friendly, funny and always welcoming person. Apart from the sandwich he is the reason that I like Charlies sandwiches.

Charlies sandwiches are the best sandwiches in all of Århus, and I know of people who will travel all the way from Horsens, which is is a 60 Km drive away, to get a sandwich from Charlies. I like them because:

  • Always fresh and crispy ingredient’s and vegetables with lots of taste
  • Extremely good customer service
  • High quality food at a fair price
  • Almost 500g sandwich at only 42,- kr

Back to the Café. We picked up a pair of menus at the counter and found two empty seats at the top floor right next to the window. No more than two minutes had past before a waitress showed up to take our orders.

We ordered the Charlie’s Brunch that consist of:

  • Scrambled eggs with sun dried tomatos and bacon
  • Olives, Chrizo sausage, Parma ham and Cheese
  • Pancakes with Honey and Orange Roasted nuts
  • Fruits
  • Butter and bread
  • 1 cup of coffee and 1 Strawberry & Orange Smoothie

All this for the price of only DKK. 122,-

Our waitress showed up with bread, and coffee not long after our order. I think we waited for about one quarter of an hour before the waitress showed up with the rest of our brunch. The waiting time didn’t seem long as the atmosphere was cosy and there were lots of things to look at.

The brunch was very excellent. It was quality cooking that was deliciously arranged. The coffee was regular coffee and it was newly made. The smoothie was cold and had just the right balance of sweet and sour. The bread was of excellent quality it seemed to be the same kind of bread that is used for Charlies sandwiches, it came with regular butter. The scrambled eggs was very good and had a great taste that was not too salty. The vegetables were all fresh and had a lot of taste to them. However, the best part of the brunch was without a doubt the pancake! It was a great combination with honey and orange roasted nuts.

All in all it was a very delicious brunch the only thing I can complain about was the amount of food. However, the quality of the brunch compensate for that minor detail.

HowTo: Download YouTube and Flash movies

Sometimes I come across a movie clip from youtube that I want to download to my mac, so that I could load it on to my iPhone. I tried several solutions both shareware and freeware. Final I came across a solution that was already build into my browser Safari that made it possible for me to download videos from youtube. Now Im not sure this works for windows as well though it should do. Here is what you do.

flash_icon

Open Safari and navigate to the webpage containing the flash movie that you want to download (for example youtube). In the menu bar you need to locate the Window menu. Here you will find a function called Activity. Clicking this will bring up a new window called Activity. Now the next part is a bit tricky, however, it helps if you only have one webpage open. Now you need to navigate to the webpage, in the Activity window, from which you want to download a flash movie.

HowTo: Convert flv to mp4 iPhone for free!

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008
by Philip Hoyos

For a while now I have been searching the web for a free application for Mac OS X that would allow me to convert a movie in flv format from YouTube to my iPhone. I came across a wide variety of applications like iSquint, VisualHub and FilmRedux, these were free applications that should have allowed me to convert my movie. Unfortunately both iSquint and VisualHub has gone out of production, and I was unable to download them from their creators Techspansion.

As I don’t quit I had to find another solution, that was free to use. I have used Handbreak for converting other things before, although I couldn’t find any information about their support of flv, I had to try it out.

handbrak

Success! Handbrake now supports universal input and therefor converts flv to any other format that is supported by Handbrak. The creators have tapped into the power of the FFmpeg project and have had a massive achievement by this.

You can download it at http://www.handbrake.fr

I used version 0.9.3, which at this time is the current version.

The new design

by Philip Hoyos

Welcome to my blog =) This is my new theme designed for my blog Aetas. In the top right corner I displayed my logo. I created it using Illustrator and Photoshop. My menu in the top of the blog was created using the same method I have done a tutorial on. It is a menu that uses one image and CSS coding with background positioning. I have had to do quit a bit of research to create this look, however, I think it turn out very nicely. If you would like to know how I have created this look, then please don’t hesitate to ask. With enough responds and time I will create a tutorial. This new design offers a better reading experience for the user in my opinion.

I have not finalized it yet so changes will happen when I get around to make them. There might be a couple of errors around, and there are things I haven’t had the time to fix yet. But please feel free to comment on the design, and post any errors you might find. I hope you will like it.
