(more…)

Review: Charlies Café and Juice Bar

Charlie´s Cafe & Juice Bar
Guldsmedgade 17
8000 Århus C
Tlf: 86 19 37 92

Mandag-Lørdag 8:00 – 20:30 &
Søndag 10:00 – 20:30

Charlies Café is a new restaurant that has recently opened in the heart of Århus. As I like Charlies Sandwich very much, I thought I had to try out the restaurant as well. I invited my girlfriend out for Brunch one Sunday morning in October, so that we could try it out together.

Charlies Café is located right next to Charlies Sandwich Bar in Guldsmedegade across from Emmery’s. The restaurant has two floors with a kitchen and a bar on the bottom floor and dinning area on the first floor.

The restaurant and sandwich bar is owned and managed by Amir. He is always very talkative and friendly. I usually buy my sandwich from the sandwich bar where I got to know Reza, who works there. He is a very friendly, funny and always welcoming person. Apart from the sandwich he is the reason that I like Charlies sandwiches.

Charlies sandwiches are the best sandwiches in all of Århus, and I know of people who will travel all the way from Horsens, which is is a 60 Km drive away, to get a sandwich from Charlies. I like them because:

  • Always fresh and crispy ingredient’s and vegetables with lots of taste
  • Extremely good customer service
  • High quality food at a fair price
  • Almost 500g sandwich at only 42,- kr

Back to the Café. We picked up a pair of menus at the counter and found two empty seats at the top floor right next to the window. No more than two minutes had past before a waitress showed up to take our orders.

We ordered the Charlie’s Brunch that consist of:

  • Scrambled eggs with sun dried tomatos and bacon
  • Olives, Chrizo sausage, Parma ham and Cheese
  • Pancakes with Honey and Orange Roasted nuts
  • Fruits
  • Butter and bread
  • 1 cup of coffee and 1 Strawberry & Orange Smoothie

All this for the price of only DKK. 122,-

Our waitress showed up with bread, and coffee not long after our order. I think we waited for about one quarter of an hour before the waitress showed up with the rest of our brunch. The waiting time didn’t seem long as the atmosphere was cosy and there were lots of things to look at.

The brunch was very excellent. It was quality cooking that was deliciously arranged. The coffee was regular coffee and it was newly made. The smoothie was cold and had just the right balance of sweet and sour. The bread was of excellent quality it seemed to be the same kind of bread that is used for Charlies sandwiches, it came with regular butter. The scrambled eggs was very good and had a great taste that was not too salty. The vegetables were all fresh and had a lot of taste to them. However, the best part of the brunch was without a doubt the pancake! It was a great combination with honey and orange roasted nuts.

All in all it was a very delicious brunch the only thing I can complain about was the amount of food. However, the quality of the brunch compensate for that minor detail.
