Eliminating the prejudices and misunderstandings

About four years ago, August 2005, my second laptop failed me for the third time and I had to go back to the shop to get it repaired. Between three and five weeks everytime I had to have the PC repaired and I was completely feed up with Windows, PC computers and shops promising fast, stabile computers running with no problems what so ever. How could any company with pride sell products that constantly failed or software with numerous errors. This certainly did not help my frustration.

At this time I started looking at Apple computers. The really looked good and I tried a MacBook at one of my buddies. He was all frantic about it. Talked about all the amazing stuff that was possible with this kind of machine. In my mind he sounded like some kind of preacher trying to commit me to his mac-religion. I asked him if I could sit down for a while and mess around with his mac. (more…)

In September 2006 I chose to switch from windows pc and instead I bought a brand new MacBook Pro (MBP) 17″. It was very nice and all what I wanted. Though had I waited just one month my mac would not have been reduced to half the price. Just one month after I bought my mac Apple released the new MBP with n-protocol wireless and some other updates. I though that was a shame, however, I was very happy with my mac.

Then in June 2007 just before my exams, my monitor broke down. It had horizontal and vertical lines across the screen, so I couldn’t see the desktop or what I were working on. This time it was crucial that I could use my mac, as I had made my exam presentation on my mac. Luckily a friend of mine had just bought a MacBook (MB). I placed my MBP at the local Humac and they repaired it free of charge as It was covered by the 1st year warranty.

In the beginning of December 2007 I purchased a AirPort Extreme Base station. Because I had been given a n-protocol wireless card for my MBP for my birthday in november. Afterwards I found out that my MBP is unable to be updated to the new wireless format. In January 2008 the new Time Capsule was released leaving me feeling yet again very unlucky that I have just purchased a device that feel by half the price.

Around the beginning of May 2008 my Battery suddenly started to swell up opening up almost 45 degrees. I called Apple would said that they would replace my Battery because of the circumstances regardless of my warranty.

Now one year later May 2008, just 2 weeks before the start of my exams my MBP came up with the exact same problem as previous. I thought Apple would cover it because I purchased it in Denmark, where we have a 2-year warranty on manufacturing errors. Since the monitor had already had been replaced once and I am within the 2-year warranty  I thought there would be no problem having my monitor repaired again.

However, I called the Apple Hotline and they gave me a reference number to give at my local Humac. They were very nice and explained to me what had to happen. First they had to determine if it was a manufacturing error, secondly they had to pas the case on because I was out of Apples one-year-warranty.
So I went down to the Humac store, gave the man my reference number and had him send it in to their repair department. A few days later I received a letter from Humac containing a draft of what they had found out. What they basically told me was that the price of repairing my mac would be the cost of a new MB.
As couldn’t see any corespondency between Apple and Humac regarding what had been agreed. I asked, and I had to call back and forth a few times between Humac and Apple, before Humac finally told me that the reference number I had provided basically was useless to them as I had to have Apple contact Humac regarding my MBP. I convinced him to email Apple anyway to take care of the whole deal.

Now Im waiting to see what will happen. The reason why Im writing you is to tell you that regardless of what have happened with my MBP I really think Apple make the best products. Also I hope that you could help me out with my mac issues.

I have made it my own personal quest to have as many PC users as possible use Mac’s instead of PC’s. So far I know I have convinced more than 10 people to buy Macs because I have guided them in their needs. Currently Im involved in a project at my University that will connect our lecture schedule with all the macs and the upcoming iPhones. At our University we have not got any guides on how to connect the mac to the university wireless. Im in charge of making that guide as well as implementing it.

Every year for christmas I use all the pictures from the year to create a picture DVD and a calendar. I create one for each family member. They are all very fond of it and keep asking me how I have done it. This way I have had a lot of my family and friends buy Apple products.

I have also created a website, where Im posting tutorials on how to use macs and all the wonderful possibilities that comes with this fascinating machine.

Update…

After discussion back and forth between me, Humac and AppleCare. I found out that there had been a confusion  about what I wanted. Humac did not realize that I wanted Apple to pay for the whole deal. But at AppleCare, while talking to a supporter, we realized this. The apple supporter told me that Apple would take care of the whole deal and that I only had to pay for the diagnosis of my MacBook Pro.

Thumbs up for Apple =)
