Could not download information Unable to connect to remote server Would you like to continue scanning? (Solved)

May 14, 2012

Every time I try to run the library update on my XBMC I get this message:

Could not download information
Unable to connect to remote server
Would you like to continue scanning?

The problem started after I upgraded linux from 11.10 to 12.04, for some reason this removed my XBMC installation. So I reinstalled that, and everything seemed to be working just fine until I tried to update the movie library. I have no problem connecting to the internet from Linux, it just seems to be a problem with XBMC.

I tried to remove my sources and add them again to update the movie scraper, that did not help either. With help from the XBMC community, and I found out that the problem could be solved by entering a specific DNS address.

Fix ‘Could not download information Unable to connect to remote server Would you like to continue scanning?’

To set your DNS, run this command in your terminal:

sudo nano /etc/resolv.conf

Then add the following line

nameserver 8.8.8.8

  1. OK so I have library mode on, I have changed to PM3 instead of PM3.HD I have got some stuff showing up, but it still seems to insist on going out to the internet to get the media data, instead of using all the stuff that EMM pulled down. I have tried the “initiate XBMC update” button in EMM and can hear the xbox HDD tick away for about 1 second. But nothing seems to get put into XBMC. I must still be missing something.
